Rubrics - Comments
- Using rubrics in grading student projects has many benefits. By providing rubrics when a project is assigned, students and parents are well informed of the project expectations. There are no surprises on how a grade will be determined. Students will confidently meet or even exceed the teacher expectations when these expectations are well communicated. Parents can better guide their children when they are informed of a project's requirements. Also, when graded projects are returned with the rubric attached, students and parents understand exactly where the student excelled or needed improvement. Rubrics are a solid communication tool regarding student progress.

- My name is Juanita Scurry. I presently teach 2nd grade in a suburb of Atlanta, GA. I have 9 years teaching experience. In my experience, I've used a lot of different type of assessments. I truly like rubrics as a form of assessment. I like rubrics because they are student, teacher and parent friendly. They provide a clear-cut unbiased method of grading major projects. Rubrics let the children know before hand what is expected and how they can receive the highest score possible. Self- assessment rubrics are also great for students to judge the quality of the work they produce. There are numerous websites that make using rubrics even more exciting because the sites pretty much create the rubric for you. Most importantly rubrics save time, which is something educators don't have a lot of.
