Programming, Behavioural Challenges and Assistive Technology

This module examines the relationship between the Universal Design for Learning model and assistive technology. Participants will be provided with experiences necessary to enhance teaching and learning with students of diverse abilities and to create a foundation for independent learning. Participants will explore online resources for students with exceptionalities. They will learn how to integrate online resources and assistive technology tools into classroom activities to complement teaching in a digital learning environment.

  6. Interactive activities to complement teaching and learning

    • Rubrics for web lessons

This institute will be delivered using the following:

  • PowerPoint presentations and visuals
  • Interactive activities using the web
  • Group discussion

The varying skills of participants will be used as a catalyst to model cooperative learning and the understanding that all students can reach a level of success in the modern classroom.

Assessment requirements (Groups or individually)

  1. Participants will be required to prepare a daily reflection which will be submitted electronically.
  2. Prepare a Unit Plan using UDL on a topic of choice. The plan will utilize skills learnt during the institute. (Guidelines for preparation of unit with a template and rubric will be made available for participants electronically)
  3. Create a PP presentation of not more than ten slides to introduce students to the selected unit. Participants will be required to consider how to engage every learner with a clear understanding of what the essential question is and what they need to focus on in the unit through the guiding questions. Appropriate links should be included along with choice of graphic organizer and/or visuals to support various learning styles.(Rubric will be provided)
